Donald L. Mooney Enterprises, LLC dba NURSES Etc STAFFING is sourcing a qualified Physician for the Federal Correctional Institution located in Bastrop, Texas.

Description of Duties
Shall be responsible for, but is not limited to:

  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the Adults in Custody (AIC); PHYSICIAN SERVICES STATEMENT OF WORK
  • Take medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests and xrays;
  • Make a diagnosis, provide treatment plans and prescribe medications;
  • Clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing;
  • Attend to medical emergencies;
  • Record progress notes, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy;
  • Emergency consultation to be performed by the contractor in instances where deemed necessary. Perform minor surgery utilizing local anesthesia during consultation visits;
  • Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating and revising program plans;
  • Assists in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to delivery of the health care services;
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems
  • Manages the daily operation of the clinic and conducts daily sick call; which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings and providing clinical evaluations;
  • Provides a wide range of emergency services, in the absence of the physician.

Education and Experience:
Must be certified to practice medicine in the State of Texas. Providing verification of credentials (education, current licensor/status competency, continuing medical education), and proof of malpractice insurance, as required by the Joint Commission. Must have knowledge of routine office related duties including working knowledge of computers, word processing programs and be able to type. The physician must possess good organizational skills, good interpersonal relationship skills and be able to work effectively with the medical staff. The physician cannot have had a negative employment termination within 36 months prior to initiating vouchering process on them. 

Patient Management
Responsible for receiving patients and explaining procedures to alleviate undue anxiety, submitting reports and evaluations as requested. The contractor will be responsible for following directives and comply with Bureau of Prisons Health Services Manual, local institutional mandates, and the Health Services Department’s policies in the management of all patient encounters.

Hours:
A session is defined as one hour. The contractor is estimated to provide 16 one (1) hour session per week. They can work three (3) times a week for 40 weeks in a year or twice a week every week in a year. The schedule will consist of eight (8) hour days, Monday through Friday, excluding Federal Holidays, on a as needed basis for 120 workdays within the first year, and 120 workdays in Performance Period 1, not to exceed 240 workdays in a 24-month period. Any time worked in a day, constitutes one (1) day. Work hours will normally be between 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. These hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the institution. The contractor shall not exceed an estimated 24 hours per week.

On-Call/Call Back
The contractor will be required to be on-call and available to return calls to the institution within 60 minutes if requested. This on-call requirement is critical for maintaining continuity of care and ensuring the safety and security of the institution.
