Position: Dental Hygienist
Location: Metropolitan Detention Center, Brooklyn, NY
Education & Experience:
The Dental Hygienist must be a graduate of a school of allied health/technical program (or equivalent) and must hold a current certification and registration in General Dentistry and Periodontology, as a Dental Hygienist. Training must include dental radiology and radiology safety. The Dental Hygienist shall be certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association and have a minimum of six (6) month of experience providing Dental Hygienist services.
Additional experience is desired but not required. All contract workers under this BPA shall have the ability to read, understand, count, fluently speak, and legibly write the English language. Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable.
Documents Needed: (resume, photocopies of certificates, verification of education, licensure, etc.). Must provide a letter of recommendation from three (3) peers.
The contractor shall provide the following Dental Hygienist services, which include, but are not limited to, the items listed below.
• Provide dental prophylaxis on AICs who are referred by the dental staff.
• Provide thorough individualized oral hygiene instructions to each patient.
• Monitor oral hygiene and periodontal condition on each patient seen for dental prophylaxis.
• Assess and documents vital signs.
• Complete necessary dental x-rays as specified by the dentist.
• Sterilize instruments used for prophylaxis and other instruments as specified by the dental or medical staff.
• Perform necessary paperwork related to scheduling patients for dental prophylaxis as directed by the dental staff.
• Documents care within the Bureau’s Electronic Medical Record (BEMR)
• Properly dispose of paper documents, such as shredding, when warranted.
• Assist the Dental or Chief Dentist with patient care when and if needed.
